A teenager’s good deed surprises mother at Target when shopping with her daughter for birthday gifts. Megan Shufflebarger was with her 2 year old daughter Kinley making a wish list for Kinley’s upcoming birthday when the little girl completely fell in love with a doll she saw in the store.
The girl’s mother later describes what happened next on her facebook page, thanking the 19 year-old university football player that was passing by in the same aisle when the little girl saw the doll.
The two year old girl, who was at that point asking her mother for the doll she loved, was then approached by the passer-by. He kneeled by her side and asked her which doll was her favorite, to which she replied, pointing at the chosen doll “I really lub dis one.”
According to the mother the man then picked up the doll and walked away with it so she initially didn’t understand what happened. But soon after, he returned with the doll in a bag, along with a receipt, gave it to the little girl and wished her a happy birthday.
Initially speechless, the mother then asked the kind stranger to come back and take a photo with the happy little girl and her new doll to remember the event and thanked him for his kindness. It was only later, when she was already in her car, that she realized she didn’t even know the young man’s name. She then set out to find out who the teenager was, as she wanted to share his lovely gesture with the world.
In her attempt to find out the identity of the stranger, she posted the photo she had taken of him in the store on Facebook in a post recounting the man’s good deed and generosity and explaining how much his gesture inspired her to “pay it forward”.
Her post went viral soon enough and the young man was identified as being 19 year-old Tario Fuller II, a freshman football player for Purdue University. Fuller’s kindness was recognized and honored by both his university’s athletic department, which shared their excitement and joy at having such a student as part of their community on Twitter, as well as by the NCAA, which wrote an article on their website about his good deed stating that his random act of kindness had been refreshing to witness.
The mother of three whose daughter was the beneficiary of Fuller’s kindness has since told several media outlets that have interviewed her about the issue that she considers the young man a great row model for kids these days.
