BEACON TRANSCRIPT – You probably haven’t heard anything about the game developer Accolade for quite a long time, but now they have returned with the revival of the 16-bit series Bubsy. They have already launched a trailer for the new title, Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back, which should hit the market this year in both a PC and a PS4 version.
Bubsy and Accolade make a surprising return
This comes out as quite surprising, and there are several reasons for that. First of all, both the developer and the game series slowly disappeared, until it was presumably declared dead at the beginning of 2000s.
Bubsy 3D was the last game in the series, which was released during the late ‘90s. After that, Accolade did not survive for long. Actually, the company did not dissolve completely, but most of it has been purchased by Infogrames. Therefore, what was left of Accolade became a part of Infogrames North America.
Besides Bubsy, Accolade owned some other titles, including Law of the West, Fight Night!, or Barkley Shut Up and Jam!. All of them have been purchased by Tommo Inc. This company also issued a re-release of the first two Bubsy games on Steam, in 2015.
The new game is a collaboration between three developers
Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back appears to be the work of a collaboration between Tommo, the German studio well-known for Giana Sisters, namely Black Forest Games, and Accolade, who returned from the dead. They also launched a website which proves that they’re back.
But how was this iconic character born? Michael Berlyn, the creator, revealed how he came up with the idea of this game. In fact, he got some inspiration from Sonic the Hedgehog. After playing this game for 14 hours every day for a week, Berlyn was so impressed that he ended up creating this game. If you have ever played the game and feel nostalgic, the little bobcat is back to entertain you.
