Dove Chocolate may pose a threat for people with allergies
BEACON TRANSCRIPT – Christmas is a holiday notorious for making people eat too much but when allergy threat makes Dove recall chocolates we really want to go easy on the sweets.
On Christmas, meals somehow get bigger and last longer and they are incredibly good. We eat all sorts of roasts or steaks, sausages and a lot of gravy and somehow we’re still up for desert. Apple, pumpkin or cranberry pies are the best with a little bit eggnog or some wine and let’s not forget about hot chocolate.
Speaking about chocolate, although it’s probably a whole year-round favorite for many of us, on Christmas it seems like it tastes even better, somehow more…Christmassy. And of course, kids love it. It’s their favorite food and they could eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus luncheon or elevensies for the ones who like stories.
But especially because they love it so much, you have to be careful not only about how much they eat but also about where they took it from. The Dove Chocolate sold at Walmart stores has been recalled. Mars Chocolate has a special seasonal product called Dove Chocolate Assortment Snowflakes which is sold only at Walmart everywhere around the country.
Since it’s seasonal, everyone is buying it for Christmas. However, the company realized the chocolates can pose a great risk for people with allergies, especially children who don’t or can’t read the label. The cases of Dove Chocolate contain Milky Way, Twix and Snickers candy bars, which as many of us know, contain peanuts. The candy bars can also contain wheat or eggs. The problem is that these ingredients are not listed on the label which is a mistake coming from such a big company.
The mistake has been identified by a customer who found a Snickers in the Dove bag. Although no adverse effects were reported the company recalled the products and it is recommended, in case you already bought a case, not to try out the candy if you are allergic to peanut, wheat or eggs.
If you don’ have any allergies to the above listed items, you can safely consume the candy. However, if you already purchased the product but did not open it, you can return it to the store and ask for a refund.
