BEACON TRANSCRIPT – A new study published in the Lancet Medical Journal discovered that the South American tribe Tsimane has one of the healthiest people in the world. The tribe, located in the Amazonian rainforest in Bolivia, lives such a healthy and active lifestyle that propelled it on top of the health list.
After analyzing hundreds of people pertaining to the Tsimane tribe, researchers discovered that nine out of ten people had clear arteries. This indicates the fact that they have a good heart health, which seems like a challenge nowadays, when so many people struggle with heart disease and other related health problems.
How are these people so healthy?
Researchers explained that one of the reasons for this perfect state of health of the Tsimane people could be their lifestyle. They are constantly active, as they work a lot and search for their own food. Most of the time, the people in the tribe hunt and engage in farming activities. Thus, they have healthy food sources, which can only bring benefits to their health.
Among the people in the study, there were subject aged 75 or older. From all these people, almost two-thirds were healthy. Only eight percent of all people involved in the study showed moderate or high levels of health risks.
Does food play a role in their health?
The diet of the Tsimane consists mainly of rice, corn, plantain, and fruits. Most of their food is homegrown or taken from the jungle, as they live in a remote place and it would be difficult for them to obtain their food in other ways. Thus, a diet low in saturated fats and non-processed carbohydrates appears to be good for the heart.
Together with the diet, there is the healthy and active lifestyle this people live. They are away from risk factors that are typically found in a modern lifestyle, such as smoking, so being isolated from human civilization and living as naturally as possible is what helps them live longer.
The Tsimane, with a population of around 14,000 people, teach us valuable lessons. They are the clearest example that a healthy diet and an active lifestyle can be crucial for the health of our heart. People should start being active most of the day and pay more attention to what they eat.
