BEACON TRANSCRIPT – Apple looks like is constantly growing and expanding, leaving many competitors behind and now rumor has it that Apple might buy Time Warner.
Besides their smartphones, tablets and computers which are in general the number one option on the U.S. gadget market, Apple has some other interest as well such as TV. Besides some TV apps which are constantly updating, Apple is now working at its own TV streaming service.
You will now probably think of Netflix, or other streaming services which already exist, so why would Apple go through the trouble of coming up with a new service? But here’s the trick: they won’t develop a new streaming service. They will buy an already existing one and make it into Apple streaming service. The one they have their eyes on is Time Warner, the company which owns HBO.
Although Time Warner is not yet officially for sale it looks like the company is under great pressure from shareholders to sell either a part or the entire company. Of course, Apple is interested in the most popular Time Warner assets which are HBO, CNN, Turner Sports and Warner Bros. Having all of these would mean replacing cable entirely with the Apple streaming device as you’ll have everything you need: TV-series and movies, news, sports and animations.
Apple has ‘paused’ its development of its streaming service, finding it difficult to nail down networks. But making a deal with Time Warner, especially if they buy them out, could get Apple on the top again, this time in the ‘television’ field.
On the other hand, buying out the whole company might end up being too complicated so it is more likely that Apple will only buy a few Time Warner assets such as HBO. Apple is known for buying out startups, and a company such as Time Warner that is old and experienced could even represent a drawback for the tech giant.
Moreover, Apple has been working with HBO previously to launch a streaming app the HBO Now. However, it doesn’t look like Time Warner is interested in selling parts of the company, giving away HBO.
Nevertheless, given the pressure they receive, Time Warner might be inclined to sell at some point and Apple TV users would be able to enjoy HBO streaming directly from their TV producer.
