BEACON TRANSCRIPT – Grand Theft Auto V will no longer feature a special Red Dead Redemption map mod. To the disappointment of fans, the modding team has recently revealed that they had to cancel this project. Even the trailer was taken down shortly after it appeared online.
Last month, a team revealed that they were going to create a special Grand Theft Auto V mod which would have recreated the Red Dead Redemption classic map inside the game. In the official statement, the modding team announced that a beta version would have been available this summer.
The developer team announced officially the canceling of their project
Then, Mr. Leisurewear, the leader of the modding team, announced that they would no longer work on the map as they had been “contacted”. This meant that they had to cancel the project. They declared that they were so sorry for all the people who got excited about this, but the creation of the mod was no longer possible.
Initially, they did not reveal who contacted them. Then, they admitted that Take Two were the ones responsible. Also, in order to avoid all misconceptions, they had to make sure all users understood that they had not designed this mod as a PC port.
Their initial plan was just to create a map and then convert it for all game versions. Thus, they did not intend to create an entirely new story mode which would have mixed narrative elements from Red Dead Redemption with those from GTA V. It would have allowed users to explore a RDR map by using GTA characters.
Big companies usually force fan developers not to produce content
As expected, fans were disappointed when they heard the news. Many of them asked Mr. Leisurewear not to throw away their work, at which he answered that he had never thought of doing that. A lot of fans were excited when they heard that, but not throwing away the project does not necessarily mean that it would turn into a future mod.
Unfortunately, it happens quite often that big companies force modders to stop developing such projects. Usually, fan developers come up with exciting ideas and prove really creative. Moreover, some of their project sometimes do not even come under the incidence of the rights’ owners. This is a pity, since producing such content would not have created such copyright issues.
