It’s been a long battle between personal assistants, but it seems that in the future Cortana will be stealing Google Now’s job as it’s now able to take the coveted position of ‘default digital personal assistant’. The competition between Siri, Google Now and Cortana is becoming a bit more fierce, with a new update and promising options for the future.
With Windows 10, Microsoft introduced us to Cortana, their own kind of assistant that has proven to be decently popular among users, in spite of the fact that it’s still in its beta stage. Considering other similar software fighting in the same market, who are far older and more experienced, she’s doing quite splendidly.
In a new update, Android users are now able to put Microsoft’s personal assistant in the default position, replacing Google Now, who has been for a long time ready to jump at a simple command. That does give it one huge advantage over the younger software, but it’s a mere detail that most might overlook.
Unlike Windows phones, Cortana does not respond to the “Hey, Cortana!” command just yet, due to hardware limitations, according to Microsoft. It has been presumed that the issue is more due to ‘compatibility’ rather than ‘limitations’ of smartphones though. For now, Android users have to hold down the Home button in order to ‘wake up’ their digital personal assistant.
However, it’s overhaul might be complete soon enough and once it’s out of the beta, it might be able to be optimized for future version.
It’s quite possible that Microsoft will be implementing a version of Cortana for iOS later this year as well, and that might be when the true battle begins. While some fans would forever be tied to the products of Steve Jobs, it might just be that Siri will not be coming out as the victor a the fight, depending on how many more improvements the Microsoft product will see.
It seems plausible for her to take place as ‘default personal assistant’ from Siri, though it’s suspected that Apple would be doing something to win back its users.
The move from Microsoft could be due to the fact that their own developed smartphones are not seeing the greatest success in comparison to their rivals and that they have faith enough in Cortana to believe she deserves the most popular brands and operating systems.
While flawlessly working with its intended Windows 10, there’s nothing wrong with taking additional jobs at Android or Apple.
