Gene Wilder Spoke About Lifetime Career

August 30, 2016 By Angelina Stapp

Gene Wilder looking towards his left

Gene Wilder was a comedy sweetheart.

BEACON TRANSCRIPT – This week Hollywood lost another great actor as Gene Wilder said his final goodbye. The actor best known for his role in Willy Wonk and the Chocolate Factory was reclusive in his last years due to an illness that affected his cognitive capacity.

Gene Wilder was one of the masters of old-school comedy, a usual appearance next to Mel Brooks, Richard Pryor, and other stars of the generation.

Three years ago, during an interview with Robert Osborne, the host of Turner Classic Movies, Gene Wilder spoke about his lifetime career, the public’s perception of himself through the filter of his work, and the novelty Wilder brought to Willy Wonka’s character.

The interview in question would prove to be his last public appearance as his Alzheimer’s disease advanced and the actor refused to show the fans an image of a defeated star.

Gene Wilder Was Not That Funny

According to the interview, Wilder didn’t think of himself as being a funny person. While he did do a splendid job in portraying comic characters, the actor was not one to make a full room burst in laughter with the use of a single witty anecdote.

“I make my life laugh once or twice in the house, but nothing special,” he carried out by saying “I don’t think I’m that funny. I think I can be in the movies.”

He Didn’t Appreciate Swearing

When asked about the reason behind his long absence from big and small screens alike, Gene Wilder responded that he would have gladly accepted roles in movies if it weren’t for all the swearing. The actor was not that picky; he just wanted to work with a good script that didn’t involve bombing, loud noises, and swearing.

According to him, those kinds of movies, including 3D films, were not suited for his skills, so the actor preferred to wait for the right role, rather than to star in something that did not go along with his principles.

“If you go to some movies, can’t they just stop and talk, instead of swearing? That put me off a lot.”

He Created the Mystery of Willy Wonka

When asked about his iconic role in Roald Dahl’s adaptation, Gene Wilder declared that he felt like something was amiss with the original screenplay, so he came up with an original idea:

“I wanted to come out with a cane, come down slowly, have it stick into one of the bricks, get up, fall over, roll around, and they all laugh and applaud. The director asked, ‘What do you want to do that for?’ I said because from that time on, no one will know if lying or telling the truth.”

Gene Wilder was pronounced dead Monday morning at his house in Stamford. The actor was 83 years old.

February 6, 2016 By Helen Bradford

"Former Playboy Model Died After Visiting her Chiropractor"

Katie May was declared brain dead on Tuesday after she suffered a severe brain stroke.

BEACON TRANSCRIPT – Katie May a former Playboy model and an NFL cheerleader, was declared brain dead on Tuesday afternoon and taken off life support. The former Playboy model died after visiting her chiropractor for an injury she sustained during a photo shoot.

May’s family is in disdain after Katie passed away on Tuesday afternoon. Katie’s family, as well as the doctors, tend to believe that Katie’s death is linked to a visit the former Playboy model paid to her chiropractor.

According to the statements, on the 29th of January, Katie May, former Playboy model, who was also an NFL cheerleader posted a tweet on her account saying something about an injury and that she went to the chiropractor in order to fix her neck. Indeed, during her last photo shoot May, fell and sustaining an injury in the neck area.

After a few days, Katie May still experienced some pain in the neck area. And so, instead of going to a doctor to evaluate her condition, the model decided to go to her chiropractor. It seems that during her second visit to the chiropractor, things took a turn for the worse.

Stephan May, Katie’s brother declared in a press interview that he doesn’t know if her sister sought medical attention prior to her hospitalization, which took place on Monday. He also added that after her second visit to the chiropractor, Katie still complained about discomfort in the neck area.

Christina Passanisi, Katie’s best friend declared that the model was indeed a phenomenon when it came to her career. Passanisi also stated that the model made a grave mistake by visiting her chiropractor instead of a doctor.

According to Katie’s family, the former Playboy model was rushed to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center of Monday afternoon, after May kept complaining about discomfort. After they’ve arrived at the hospital, Katie’s condition grew worse and she began to vomit. The doctors said that after she started vomiting, Katie suffered a first stroke.

Former Playboy model died after visiting her chiropractor instead of a doctor. After Katie suffered her first stroke, the doctors rushed her to ICU in order to recuperate. But it would seem that overnight, the model suffered a second stroke, much more severe than the first one.

On Tuesday afternoon, Katie May was declared brain dead and her family and friends decided to unhook her from the life support machine. According to the doctors in charge of Katie’s case, the model suffered the deadly stroke due to a blockage of her carotid artery. They have their reasons to suspect that during Katie’s last visit to the chiropractor, something went terribly wrong and her carotid artery got clogged.

Moreover, the medical specialists even suspect that Katie’s artery got damaged beyond repair. The NFL cheerleader model left behind a 7-year old daughter called Mia. To help support Mia’s education, her family and friends set up a GoFundMe account.

Why Kung Fu Panda 3 is a Game-Changer

January 29, 2016 By Clayton Meason

"Why Kung Fu Panda 3 is a Game-Changer"

The movie will be launched on the 29th of January in China and America, and will feature 2 different versions.

BEACON TRANSCRIPT – Kung Fu Panda 3 is here, proving that January and February are not always dull in term of new flicks. Usually, during this season, Hollywood tries its best to entice us with cheap and obnoxious horror flick or comedies. Every now and then, the movie studio manages to surpass our expectations and create something totally unique. Here is why Kung Fu Panda 3 is a game-changer.

Although the plot is somewhat predictable, the movies makes it up to the audience through its witty and humorous punchlines and unforgettable characters. The third installment of the film will feature the same voice-overs performed by charismatic actors such as Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Seth Rogen, Dustin Hoffman and Bryan Cranston.

In Kung Fu Panda 3, the adorable, yet though panda bear called Po, assumes the role of Kung Fu master, following closely in the footsteps of Master Shifu. Regarding the emblematic and enigmatic master Shifu, here’s a fun fact for you. Dustin Hoffman, the actor who brought Shifu to life, didn’t know what kind of animal the dojo master is.

Po, together with his team of fine warriors must face a new threat in the form of a menacing bull-like character, voice by the actor J.K Simmons. The bull is set to conquer the world after he absorbed the spiritual essences of all the former dojo masters who dwell in the spiritual realm.

Apart from the predictable plot, accompanied by the witty commentaries of the characters, Kung Fu Panda 3 is also considered a box-office breaker due to the fact that the movie managed to bring together Hollywood and several Chinese movie producers.

The third installment of the movie, produce by DreamWorks Animation, in collaboration with several other Chinese movie producers, is sure to open the gate towards future joint ventures in the movies area.

Why Kung Fu Panda 3 is a game-changer you ask? First of all, it managed to target a specific segment of movie aficionados, more specifically those who celebrate the Chine New Year. During this time of the year, people chose to go home in order to celebrate the New Year. Most of them would stop by the movie theater in order to view some relaxing flicks, which is A prime in terms of ticket sales.

Kung Fu Panda 3 will launch simultaneously in the US and China on the 29th of January. Moreover, the movie will have two versions, one in English and one in Mandarin.

Movie producers look forward to a fruitful collaboration with China. Moreover, this fresh start can also ensure that more American movies will get approved by the Chinese censors. To this end, another US-based movie company, by the name of Lion Gate Entertainment struck a deal with a Chinese company.

The company’s attorney declared that the sole condition imposed by the Chinese movie company is that there will be no more Chinese antagonists in the movies.

Who Will Be the Big Winner at the 2016 Oscar Awards?

January 15, 2016 By Angelina Stapp

"Oscar statues"

The nominees for “Best Movie” category are The Revenant, The Big Short, Brooklyn, Spotlight, and Mad Max: Fury Road.

BEACON TRANSCRIPT – The nominations are out and everybody is asking themselves who will be the big winner at the 2016 Oscar Awards? The nominees for “Best Movie” category are The Revenant, The Big Short, Brooklyn, Spotlight, and Mad Max: Fury Road. All five of them are exceptional movies with an original background and equal fighting chances. But who will be the big winner at the 2016 Oscar Awards Ceremony? Let’s take a look at the contenders.

Is this Leo’s year? I actually hope so since Hugh Glass is one of the most difficult roles he ever had, I mean, the man wrestled a bear and then spent months in a frozen wasteland trying to get back home. And Leo, the man that continued to act when his hand was dripping with blood, has the leading role. But, and it pains me to admit it, the other four nominees are strong suitors for the prize. Spotlight is a controversy on its own. It’s a movie that further deepens the mistrusts that has gathered around the Catholic Church in the late years. It’s a must see, and from what I’ve heard, a must win. I actually don’t want to know how the Academy members are feeling right now because all five of the nominees are strong.

Among the favorites is Spotlight. The movie is not only based on a true story, it is based on a real world-class scandal that shook the very foundations of the Catholic Church. Avenger’s Mark Ruffalo, The Notebook’s Rachel McAdams, and Birdman’s Michael Keaton play a group of investigative journalists that are on to a story that will change Boston forever. The movie follows the characters as they dig deeper and deeper into information about corrupt lawyers and pedophiliac clergymen. But you can’t just upset the entire Catholic Church and not expect repercussions. Director Tom McCarthy outdid himself with this historical, biographical drama and chances are an Oscar will be in his hands this February.

People are praying for years for an Oscar in the hands of Leonardo DiCaprio. While we simply can’t guess if he will finally be awarded the statue he deserves, we can take a better look at the movie that might actually perform the miracle. The Revenant is yet another biographical drama, but this time, the main character is driven not by a thirst of truth, but by a superhuman need of revenge. The movie focuses on the story of a fur expedition gone terribly wrong. The leader of the team gets mauled by a bear and some members leave him to die in the woods. But Hugh Glass is not that easily defeated and he will climb mountains, swim in frozen lakes and eat raw meat just to get back to the ones that abandoned him. Director Alejandro Gonzales Iñárritu, who last year brought home 3 Oscars for Birdman is on a continued rise ever since his 2006 Babel.

It seems that Tom Hardy is on fire. The English actor stars in two out of the five movies nominated for “Best Movie” at this year’s Oscar Awards. He may not be the one swimming in frozen waters in The Revenant, but he is the one fighting for water in George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road. With a rare Metascore of 89/100, the Sci-fi Adventure movie is a breath of fresh air among all the dramas that usually take up the nominations at the Awards. George Miller didn’t only managed to succeed on directing a worthy sequel to the Mad Max cult movies, he managed to do it so well he got himself an Oscar nomination for it. But this just proves how many things you can achieve with a masked Tom Hardy, and a bald, robot-armed Charlize Theron. Any attempt at a synopsis is futile. One only needs to remember the dude with the flaming guitar on top of the monstrous truck that was speeding through a desert.

Yet another biographical drama, The Big Short, made it to the list. Adam McKay gathered up top names such as Christian Bale, Steve Carell, and Ryan Gosling and brought to life the struggling times in the mid-2000s when housing credits collapsed. While there are serious contenders to the title of “Best Movie”, nobody cannot deny the genius of a movie in which Cristian Bale plays a barefoot drum playing nerd with a $2 haircut that exposes the imminent collapse of the American economy due to fraud in the banking system. And ladies, Ryan Gosling plays a banker. Let the votes come.

And last, but not least, Brooklyn. The story of an Irish woman that falls in love with an Italian man in Brooklyn, New York. The news of her mother’s death leaves her with a choice. While the story is not based on real events, the fantastic acting of both Saoirse Ronan and Emory Cohen makes it look as real as the drama in the life of refugees in Brooklyn in the 50’s. If John Crowley’s Brooklyn doesn’t get the much-lingered statue, it still has a fighting chance in the “Costumes” category.

In conclusion, who will be the big winner at the 2016 Oscar Awards? Nobody knows, but everybody has a favorite. Who are you rooting for?

5 Memorable, Shocking Moments From The Hannibal Finale

August 30, 2015 By Helen Bradford

Shocking Moments From The Hannibal Finale

The Hannibal season 3 finale came and went and pulled at all the right heart strings. We cried, we laughed, we “aww”-ed, we reflected on psychological, philosophical and existential thoughts.

And with the future of the show still uncertain, who knows when and if we may get to see how our two main characters survived that final moment. But the good news is that Bryan Fuller, showrunner, and Martha De Laurentiis, producer, are still investigating potential outlets for a season 4, as well as potential financing for a feature film.

But even if the stars align, we are at least two years away from further exploring the relationship between Will Graham and Dr. Hannibal Lecter. So rather then focus on the future, let’s take a moment to reflect on a few of the scenes from the finale. After all, we’ll remember them for years to come.

1) Dolarhyde dies in the first scene of the episode. Wait! What? Yup. Hannibal is the only show that could make me genuinely believe that a major antagonist such as The Great Red Dragon could actually die in the first 5 minutes of an episode. Of course, like most fannibals, I had seen promotional photos of the episode and knew that couldn’t possibly be the case. But ignoring my knowledge, the execution was perfectly believable.

Dolarhyde started out by testing Reba to see if he can trust her, but when she tried to make a run for it, Dolarhyde took her back to the bedroom, set the house on fire, gave a speech about not being able to watch Reba burn alive, and pretended to shoot himself in the face.

The Ravenstag also makes a cameo in the flames.

2) Dolarhyde lives! It turns out that he planted some teeth on the body of a guy that he kidnapped, shot him in the face, and dropped him on the ground for Reba to feel and confirm to the FBI that she definitely felt a body. One that she believed was Dolarhyde’s.

Of course, we only realize this when Dolarhyde attacks Will in his motel room, and the FBI profiler convinces The Great Red Dragon that killing Hannibal is in his best interest.

3) Dolarhyde dies. For real this time. After several cryptic conversations between Will and Jack, Will and Bedelia, and Will and Hannibal, the two main characters team up to take down The Great Red Dragon together. All three men involved in the fight – Will, Hannibal, Dolarhyde – are drenched in blood and barely standing on their feet after suffering several cuts and stabbings.

It’s a visually beautiful and emotionally powerful scene that ends with the audience both crying and cheering when Will and Hannibal embrace and Will pulls both of them over the edge of the cliff. The wait for season 4 isn’t going to drive anyone crazy, right? RIGHT?

4) Just like last season, the audience was treated to a post-credits scene. This one showed Dr. Bedelia Du Maurier getting ready to dine on her own leg and sitting at a table set for three. Is she waiting for Hannibal and Will to join her? I imagine so.

5) The last two scenes of the episode also have a Siouxsie Sioux song running throughout them. It’s the artists first in eight years. According to Fuller, who’s a huge fan of hers, Sioux “said she hadn’t been inspired to write in a long time, but that Hannibal had inspired her”.

The song is titled “Love Crime”, and composed by Siouxsie Sioux and Brian Reitzell.
