BEACON TRANSCRIPT – As the internet is after all not a safe place for people, their personal information and their files, Google makes $1 million investment for Drive safety.
Hackers seem to be some sort of malicious computer geniuses who do the impossible to access all sorts of information they are not allowed to. Although tech companies are trying their best to keep softwares secure, it isn’t always enough. Google has recently decided to invest $1 million into security research and hopes that in this way it will manage to keep Google Drive safe from hackers.
Google Drive is the company’s cloud storage service which allows users to store data and files without having to take much of the space in their computers. Moreover, as long as you have your account these files and data won’t ever get lost, as it could otherwise happen if your computer stops working.
As it is understandable the Google Drive is meant to keep your files safe and in case something happens, then it’s Google’s fault. This is exactly why the company is making this investment. They are going to create a grant program meant for independent security researchers. The goal is to reward these people for looking into Google’s products’ security to find out if there are any vulnerable points. The program is called the Vulnerability Reward and Google promises to give $20,000 to anyone who reports a real issue through this program.
However, the new investment is meant for researchers whether or not they find any glitches. The Vulnerability Research program is divided into three sections. One is for recently launched products or services and rewards people who look into Google’s new features. Another one is the research for sensitive products and is aimed at the products which are already on the market but are considered to be sensitive and have to be ‘handled’ with care. And the third one is research for security improvement efficacy. This one encourages people to double check vulnerabilities which have already been recently fixed.
All in all, it looks like Google is making sure that their products and services are safe and protected and is also attracting independent researchers, making the Vulnerability Reward program a win-win-win for the company, the researchers and the users.
