BEACON TRANSCRIPT – Hitting the gym one too many times nearly killed a Houston teen. Several days after his last gym session, the teen was admitted to the hospital and diagnosed with a potentially deadly muscle disease as a result of over-exercising.
Muscle Disease Caused by Over Exercising, Doctors Reveal
Jared Shamburger is a 17-year-old boy from Houston whose passion for staying in shape nearly got him killed.
According to Shamburger’s family, Jared began to feel strange after his latest gym session. His symptoms included weakness, intense muscle pain, and swelling. As the symptoms did not subside, the boy was taken to the hospital.
There, he was diagnosed with Rhabdomyolysis, a potentially deadly disease, usually caused by injury or, in his case, over exercising.
As the ER doctors explained, Rhabdomyolysis weakens the muscle tissue and eventually causes it to break down.
Subsequently, the dying muscle releases a toxin into the bloodstream. In most cases, the toxin carried by the bloodstream can damage the kidneys, leading to kidney failure.
The doctors reveal that, in rare instances, the condition leads to the patient’s death.
Rhabdomyolysis is usually caused by traumatic injuries such as car accidents or falls.
Furthermore, studies revealed that this muscle disease could also be caused by electric shock injuries, snake venom, over-exercising, heat strokes or some type of metabolic disorder.
According to the available literature on the topic, Rhabdomyolysis is difficult to diagnose.
However, most physicians agree on the “classic triad” – decreased urinary output, dark or brown urine, pain, intense muscle pain in the lower back are, thigs, and shoulders.
Conclusion
As far as Shamburger is concerned, the 17-year-old is expected to make a complete recovery. More than that, teen’s doctors said that the young man went to the hospital just in the nick of time.
