Allegedly, the battery has a lifespan of 5.5 hours, but users have reported that the device runs out of juice after 2.5 hours.
BEACON TRANSCRIPT- In terms of Virtual Reality, forget about Oculus or Samsung Headgear VR, because HoloLens is the new gig. Compact and sleek, HoloLens provides the ultimate experience in terms of virtual reality. Or it should do that if the battery would last a little longer. According to several reports, HoloLens still has battery issues and users are getting frustrated.
HoloLens, Microsoft’s proud and joy, was designed to beat all other platforms in term of VR experience. Basically, the headset packs the same mobility rate as Google Glasses and the same performance as Oculus Rift.
Moreover, why invent a VR ocular device if can’t make it portable? Well, it would seem that Microsoft was partially successful in designing a device that packed a high-mobility rate and performed flawlessly.
Unfortunately, although the developers were able to implement all these features into the new VR headset, HoloLens loses quite a lot when it comes to battery life.
Recently, Bruce Harris, who is collaborating with Microsoft for HoloLens, boasted in a tech conference hosted in Tel Aviv, that the user can use the device for 5.5 hours before it runs out of battery.
It would seem that Harris didn’t take note of the fact that several testers came forward in order to complain about the battery’s lifespan. According to their statements, the battery is indeed capable of running for 5.5 hours, but if the users decide to run one or more resource-grubbing application, than the battery’s lifespan drops under 2.5 hours.
Moreover, it would seem that the testers were also capable of discovering other flaws in Microsoft’s design. A couple of them said that the device’s field of view is quite limited, in addition to the battery issue.
Alright, maybe the limited field of view issue would not be so pesky if the battery could operate longer than 2 hours. And it’s not like you can stop anywhere and plug the device into an outlet. And what about work? Let’s say you have something very important to do, and you find out that the device is either out of battery or that the battery dies out on you during an intense session.
HoloLens still has battery issues and the tech giant promises that it will do anything it can in order to find a way around this obstacle. Microsoft even managed to secure a couple of third-party contracts with other developers in order to solve the FOV and the battery problems.
We shall see if Microsoft manages to solve this problem or not before the device will be made available to all customers.
