A Michigan woman was sentenced to prison for making up a campus rape story.
BEACON TRANSCRIPT – On Monday, Judge Joseph Sheeran sentenced Mary Zolkowski, a 21-year-old Michigan woman, to 45 days in prison. The woman has been charged with fabricating rape story. In addition to the prison time, Ms. Zolkowski was ordered to under psychiatric evaluation and seek counseling for substance abuse.
Michigan Woman With Fake Rape Story Changed Her Testimony Two Times, Authorities Declared
In early August 2017, Mary contacted her mother and told her that she had been sexually assaulted on campus. Following her mother’s advice, the Michigan woman contacted the authorities.
During questioning, Ms. Zolkowski told the investigators that she had been approached by an individual in Delta College’s parking lot and raped.
She also mentioned seeing only the hands of the assailant. Reportedly, the man fled to his car before she could turn around to see her face.
The Michigan woman said that she had been accosted and raped before, but not on Delta’s campus.
Interestingly enough, the Michigan woman refused to undergo a physical examination following her alleged encounter.
During another police interview, the woman changed her testimony, claiming that the sexual assault actually took place inside an apartment and that the attacker was an acquaintance. Of course, she apologized for the mix-up, saying that she had been distraught.
Another detail mentioned by the Michigan woman during her second police interview is that she reportedly had the intention of asking her attacker to stop.
However, according to her testimony, the individual finished and left before she could tell him to stop.
Conclusion
Last Wednesday, Zolkowski confessed that she fabricated the campus rape story in order to seek attention. And, on Monday, Judge Joseph Sheeran ordered her to spend a month and a half in prison. She was also ordered to seek substance abuse counseling and to undergo a mental evaluation.
