Shooters will now get a lot more personal!
BEACON TRANSCRIPT – Great news for all gaming aficionados out there! Microsoft has just announced that they are conducting a series of trials on the new augmented reality video game interface. The brand new HoloLens AR headset is set to be released for trial in October and November in Seattle.
The device was displayed by Microsoft Corporation in early January and, may I say, it seems to be quite a wild experience. Apart from integrating holographic application in our day-to-day lives, HoloLens takes the bet even further. Incorporating features like Skype, users are now able to communicate among them when playing games like Minecraft.
Even though the idea of a whole new experience in your very own personal alternate virtual reality can be enthralling, the overall price of the headgear can be a little bit disconcerting. The computer tech giant announced that HoloLens Development Edition will start at around $3000.
Furthermore, Microsoft invited developers from across the US and Canada to test the new virtual reality augmented headsets.
What’s even more inviting is the fact that Microsoft even released during Wednesday’s press conference a little incentive to go along with their innovative headset. “Project X Ray”, a small gaming application, can turn a whole room into an enormous video game arena.
The game itself seems to be pretty straightforward: you are the sole survivor of a cataclysmic event and you have to shoot around a couple of robots and monsters. But that’s not even the start of this great experience! With the help of incorporated AR handheld sticks, you actually do all the shooting! And when you are overwhelmed by enemies, you can simply activate a protective shield, controlled by the same interface.
Why HoloLens is such a big deal? Well, mainly because it actually is the first AR platform that requires no external cables, phone or PC connections. The great news is that Microsoft plans to ship its console to game developers by the end of 2016, after the tech giant offered a total of 40 demonstrations all over the US and Canada.
So, whether you are an aspiring fly-boy who wants to take a crack at dog-fighting techniques or you are an old school gaming geek, the new headset will be able to provide an accurate representation of your own personal virtual reality. So, grab your guns and mags and put your rear into gear, for the future will soon be knocking on your door!
