A recent study revealed that at the current time more adolescents are using e-cigarettes. The study which was conducted with 2,100 high school students from California revealed that a fourth of all those children have vaped (used electronic cigarettes) at some point in their lives. The study also revealed that around 10 percent of all the teens studies in the research are using e-cigarettes at the current time.
But that’s not all. The study also showed that teens that use electronic cigarettes are more likely to take up real smoking.
The researchers claim that around a third of electronic cigarette users have also tried smoking real tobacco cigarettes at some point. This number was even more significant when being compared to the percentage of kids who never tried smoking electronic cigarettes. Only 1 percent of teenagers who never vaped smoked regular cigarettes.
However, the team of researchers has made it abundantly clear that the discoveries don’t mean that e-cigarettes are a gateway towards smoking regular tobacco cigarettes.
Jessica Barrington-Trimis, from the University of Southern California and the lead author of the study, said that there is a strong probability that electronic cigarettes are endorsing a tobacco-friendly environment among teenagers. Another discovery made by the recent study revealed that the vast majority of the adolescents who are using e-cigarettes have friends or family members who vape.
And if this wasn’t enough, around 50 percent of the individuals studies believe that these kinds of products are harmless. The recent study was published on July 27 in the online journal Pediatrics and it comes as a response to a report from the federal government claiming that electronic cigarettes are growing in popularity.
According to the federal report, between 2011 and 2014, the use of electronic cigarettes has rocketed among middle school and high school students inside the United States. Nevertheless, the report claims that there has been a significant decline in regular tobacco cigarette smoking in the same period. The study said that many adolescents who use electronic cigarettes have never smoked tobacco.
The same discoveries have been revealed by the new study from Pediatrics. The study claims that even though it’s true that some users of electronic cigarettes have smoked at some point, about 40 percent of the people who use the device at the current time said that they have never attempted to smoke regular tobacco cigarettes.
