"NASA’s hiring the Next Generation of Astronauts "

From December,2015, until now, NASA received 18.300 applications.

BEACON TRANSCRIPT – Ever dreamt of being an astronaut? How about being one the first people to actually touch the Martian surface? If so, then you should definitely submit your application to NASA. Currently, NASA’s hiring the next generation of astronauts for all the planned space mission.

Dreaming of becoming an astronaut and actually being one are two different things. This is the first thing you’ll discover, should you ever check the space agency’s requirement sheet.

So, if you have at least one bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, chemistry or other sciences, then you are eligible to submit your application to the space agency. But wait, there’s more. Apart from being the top of your class, you must also have 10.000+ hours of experience of flying a jet aircraft. You should also be sound in wind and limb, and no to mention having some experience with foreign languages.

Well, there are also other requirements, but we don’t want to spoil your surprise. Getting back to NASA, it would seem that the space agency is looking for rookies to training in the fine art of space travel.

To this end, NASA posted on their official website that it is looking to hiring fresh talents for the next space missions. According to the space agency, the announcement for the job openings has been made in December 2015, and it will last until the 18th of February.

Surprisingly enough, after posting their announcement of the web, the space agency received no less than 18.300 applications from all over the country. According to NASA, this is an all-time high, taking into account that the highest number of application ever received by NASA until 2015 was 8000.

According to NASA’s statement, there are a couple of reasons why the space agency received so many applications this year. Apart from the obvious fact that everybody wants to become an astronaut in order to show off in front of their friends, we should take into account the fact that the space agency’s last job opening was back in 2012.

Not to mention the fact that NASA’s PR campaign paid off. Think about The Martian, Interstellar and Gravity, and you are sure to find an answer to a high number of applications. And there’s another fact we should take into account: the Mars project.

You had to be either deaf or blind or both, not to know that NASA’s planning a trip to Mars in the following 10 years. Well, whatever the case maybe, the space agency now has to deal with 18.300 potential candidates.

At the middles of December 2015, NASA opened 8 to 14 astronaut positions. Although the chances are very slim, still the thought of being out there entices everyone. NASA’s hiring the next generation of astronauts and you could be one of the few lucky ones to get the job.
