BEACON TRANSCRIPT – According to its blog, the new Skype feature is a translator, and it works in real time. The translator is said to be able to translate the words of the interlocutor into a sort of subtitle on the screen of your computer. The feature already started to roll out.
Skype is a service for Windows users all over the world. It functions as a platform for human interactions which offers the users a chance to video call one another via the internet. Its popularity increased since its debut in 2003, now the service being the main way in which potential employees are being interviewed. The main reason for its popularity being the fact that it is free to use, the only thing needed being a steady internet connection.
According to Skype, the translator feature will work, for now, with Spanish, English, Mandarin, German, French, Portuguese and Italian. The engineers that worked on the program are working at adding additional languages.
In order to see how the public will react to such features, Skype launched last year a translation preview. The program was created in collaboration with Microsoft Translator. If you are among the ones that tried to work with that preview but was dissatisfied by the result, the good news is on the way. It seems that Skype has come a long way since then, stating that the new translator will work far better.
Skype says the most popular choice of translation is French into English, being so it will probably be also the best-updated pair. But France to England, or the United States is not the most popular line. According to Skype, the majority of calls is made from Germany to Ghana.
For those of you who don’t enjoy video calls or calls in general, there is also a service for text translations. Here the possibilities are a bit wider, the user being able to choose from 50 different languages.
In order to benefit from this last feature that Skype offers, users must, first of all, make sure that they are using the latest version of the application. After doing so, they must click on the right corner of the window, there they should find a globe. That is the button that will make the upgrade possible.
Because more and more businesses choose Skype as a means of internal communication, Microsoft has decided to integrate the Slack platform with Skype. This will allow a person that uses Slack to make a video call via Skype with no effort at all.
Since the new Skype feature is a translator, mobile companies around the world should not be amazed when the rate of international calls will drop even more.
