Following in the footsteps of other tech giants Pinterest reveals plan to boost workforce diversity, spokespersons informed on Friday evening. The company is very confident in their new program and hopes results will be noticed in the following period.
Female engineers are very rare, especially among well-known tech companies, such as, Google, Facebook and Microsoft. Figures are equally alarming for ethnic categories, in spite of the efforts that human resources specialists make to attract African American and Latino employees.
Although the prospects don’t look very promising, Pinterest is, nevertheless, convinced that their program could work because they have set themselves clear and straight objectives. According to their plan, engineers will recruit young female employees from colleges because previous data has shown that this is the best strategy to prepare women for a similar career.
Various events will be hosted in the following period to raise awareness on companies’ need of diversity. For this purpose, Pinterest has agreed to work with Paradigm, an enterprise that is specialized in diversity and the correct strategies that need to be applied to achieve diversified workforce.
Due to the recent collaboration between the two enterprises various workshops and events will be organized in the following months. Pinterest has just named a few, that is, “Blacks in Tech” and “Future Female Founders”, but many more conferences will be announced on their official website, spokespersons have added.
Pinterest believes certain practices have to be changed within the company to attract and keep female employees. They will first start by reconsidering the hiring practices which might cause females to fail during the recruiting process.
A similar strategy has been adopted by human resources experts at Google. The search giant has already published several reports illustrating their need of gender and ethnic diversity. Unfortunately, the new strategy that they have implemented has not been very successful yet, but Google is not worried. The company believes the new changes they are trying to make regard the entire society and they would most likely take years until the first results will start to appear.
