T-Mobile and Verizon are competing to offer users improved video calling services.
According to official reports, T-Mobile has just launched video calling service for Samsung Galaxy users. There are many video calling services on the market at present, but T-Mobile is the only company offering users the possibility to initiate a video conference without resorting to third-party apps.
T-Mobile has taken into account customers’ feelings on third-party apps and their reliability. As a consequence, they have worked to create a program that is fully independent of all existing apps and gives users the possibility to initiate video calls directly on their dialer.
The service is currently compatible only with few Android-based devices. T-Mobile representatives have stated that the service will first be available on Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ with the possibility for a later expansion.
There are several downsides to the native video calling services. The program is only available for T-Mobile users who can accept video calls. Spokespersons have explained that a small icon in the shape of a camera will be displayed next to the contact’s name to let callers know whether the other person can receive phone calls or not. If no such service is available the camera icon will be grey.
The competition has been set between T-Mobile and Verizon because the latter also offers integrated video calling features. In addition, Verizon’s native service is available on a much larger array of devices including Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5.
T-Mobile plans to make a stand against its competitors’ services by offering features that are normally used with third party apps. WhatsApp and Viber are two of the most popular apps and T-Mobile plans to rely on them to convince customers to choose their video calling service.
A similar move was accomplished last month, when the mobile communications company launched their own version of messaging app. Advanced Messaging features many of the options and tools that users have already seen in third-party apps, so T-Mobile is now working to make its products more noticeable.
