The Nippon tech company acknowledged that the PS TV set was not popular.
BEACON TRANSCRIPT – Unfortunately, we have a piece of bad news for console fans. Recently, the tech giant Sony announced thatit will stop producing the fairly popular PlayStation Vita TV in Japan. Sony halts shipping PlayStation TV in Japan much to the discontent of some of its fans.
In a recent press statement, Sony announced that it will no longer ship PS TVs in Japan. Unfortunately, the tech giant was pretty vague concerning the global situation, meaning that we don’t know if Sony’s plans of halting production of the TV set is limited to Japan or if it affects the rest of the world as well.
Meanwhile, in the lack of an explanation, we can only speculate on the reasons behind Sony’s move. Well, we all know for a fact that the PS TV was not a big hit on the market. Sony wanted PlayStation Vita TV to be the ultimate home-entertainment gadget. Launched in 2013, PS Vita TV was more than a TV set. Apart from the TV routine, the box-like gadget was also a console and a streaming device.
However, things didn’t turn up as Sony planned. Indeed, you could have used the PS Vita in order to play some games, but, only a few of them. In fact, one of the key factors that led to the Vita’s downfall was that the console couldn’t be used in order to play the latest titles. Well, so much for the gaming console feature.
I mean, why would you buy a 70-dollar “gaming” console to play the same games you would normally play using a PS 1? And for the streaming part, we guess that there are far more reliable and cheap TV sets you can use in order to stream your favorite online channels.
Well, a couple of months after the big event, Sony acknowledge that the TV set wasn’t that popular. And so, they’ve decided to cut out a price a bit. So, for a couple of months, everyone could have gotten the dubious TV/console set for a measly 40 bucks. But, it would seem that even this move couldn’t have saved the console from its fate.
So, recently, Sony announced that it will no longer ship the TV hub in Japan, but did not disclose anything about the rest of the world. If the situation affects the global sales, then it will be pretty hard to find another PS TV on the market.
