Fruits and vegetables packed with flavonoids could reduce the risk of developing and erectile dysfunction in later life.
BEACON TRANSCRIPT – A team of medical researchers have been able to discover that foods packed with high levels of flavonoids are capable on quelling the risk of an erectile dysfunction. When associated with physical exercises, fruits reduce the risk of erectile dysfunction by strengthening the blood vessels.
According to the medical literature, flavonoids can be defined as being a class of fungus secondary metabolites (organic compounds that give the plant the ability to defend against herbivores) and plants.
Flavonoids fulfill many functions inside the plant. They often double up as pigments, offering the plant a yellowish or a red color. These organic compounds also act as UV filters and are even involved in the process of symbiotic nitrogen fixation.
Recent research has discovered that foods packed with flavonoids can have many health benefits. Flavonoids, apart from reducing the risk of erectile dysfunctions, can double up as an anti-inflammatory. Moreover, clinical studies have uncovered that his class of organic compounds can help people suffering from cancer or cardiovascular diseases.
A new nutritional study has uncovered that fruits can reduce the risk of erectile dysfunction. The study linking higher intake of flavonoids with lower risks of developing erectile dysfunction has been published on the 13 of January and can be consulted online, on the site of American Clinical Nutrition.
In order to see if there is indeed a relation between flavonoids and lower risks of erectile dysfunction, the team of scientists working for the project had to review the data provided by a health survey. The survey started in 1986 and ended in 2008. During this period, over 25.000 men were asked about their diets. Apart from that, they were asked to rate their ability to hold an erection long enough in order to engage in sexual intercourse.
Of course, in order to reach a conclusion, the scientists had to cross-reference the rate of erectile dysfunctions with flavonoid intake. Regarding the health survey, it would seem that it involved mostly middle-aged and older male candidates.
Reviewing their answers, the team of scientists has discovered that the risks of developing an erectile dysfunction decrease by 14 percent if a rich flavonoid diet was associated. Moreover, it would seem that the numbers could be improved if the candidates associated a regime of physical exercises with the fruits containing flavonoids.
The risk of developing an erectile dysfunction would drop to 21 percent if men engaged in regular outdoor activities.
In conclusion, the team of scientist has discovered that fruits reduce the risk of erectile dysfunction, by strengthening the blood vessels.
