UK family wants CCTV in nursing homes after witnessing the systematic humiliation of patients by staff.
BEACON TRANSCRIPT – A UK family demands CCTV in a nursing home after having witnessed how their 71-year-old, gravely ill mother, has been abused by staff members. The family of Joy Lewis declared that her mother was refused food and water for hours, despite the nurses knowing that she has diabetes.
UK Family Says Staff Denied Allegations
Joy Lewis’ family was shocked when they’ve discovered that the staff of the nursing home were the woman had been committed abused and neglected the 71-year-old woman.
In an interview for The Mirror, Joy’s daughter told a member of the press that her mother had been committed to the unnamed institution several years ago. Joy has Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s disease, and, according to her daughter, diabetes.
Joy’s family became suspicious during their latest visit to the London-based nursing home. According to Joy’s daughter, she found her mother sitting alone in the corner of the room as if she was intentionally segregated from the rest of the patients. When she asked a member of the staff about her mother’s isolation, a nurse told her that Joy was confused and that she demanded to be placed away from the patients.
Still, Joy’s daughter found more evidence pointing at staff abuse. During the interview, she said that her mother’s arms were covered in bruises and that she had bed sores.
Concerned for her mother’s safety, Joy’s daughter and his son-in-law, decided to install a hidden camera in the woman’s room.
Conclusion
The footage revealed that Joy was not the only patient abused by the nursing home’s staff. The UK family recalled seeing a member of the staff yelling at an elderly male patient who soiled his pants.
Furthermore, the footage captured three nurses grabbing Joy by her wrists and pulling her out of bed. Probably the most heart-breaking moment of the recording was having to hear Joy cry out for food, water, and to use the bathroom.
