Virginia Woman Shoots New Zealand Man Who Smashed Glass Door with Brick

June 26, 2018 By Jennifer Licata

Hitchhiking

The New Zealand man had duct tape, rope, and knife in his backpack.

BEACON TRANSCRIPT – Goochland County deputies and FBI agents are investigating the strange case of a man from New Zealand shot outside a family’s house on Friday afternoon. According to the authorities, the 25-year-old flew from New Zealand to the United States to meet the family’s 14-year-old daughter.

New Zealand Man Allegedly Planned to Abduct the Teenage Girl

On Friday, Gooch Land county deputies arrested 25-year-old Troy Skinner after a woman called 911 to report a shooting.

According to the police report, the suspect had been shot by a Holland Hills Community woman after he allegedly used a brick to smash a glass window.

The investigation revealed that Skinner is from New Zealand and flew all the way to the United States to meet the Virginia woman’s teenage daughter. Skinner and the girl met several months ago through Discord, a communication platform quite popular among gamers.

Jim Agnew, Goochland County Sheriff, declared that several weeks before the incident, the teenage girl informed the New Zealand man of her decision of stopping all forms of communication.

Moreover, Skinner, who apparently developed an obsession for the girl, took every bit of money he could find around the house and bought a plane ticket to Australia.

From there, the individual booked passage to Los Angeles. Furthermore, police records indicated that the New Zealand man boarded a plane to Washington DC. Next, he took a bus to Richmond and hitched roughly 30 miles to the teen’s house.

Conclusion

The girl’s mother told the authorities that she knew that the man she had seen outside her home that afternoon was Skinner.

Allegedly, when the woman refused to let him in, Skinner used a brick to smash a glass door. That’s when the woman took up a handgun and shot the New Zealand man twice, hitting him once in the neck.

Skinner was taken to the hospital. Furthermore, the doctors said that he would survive. Authorities have yet to press charges against the New Zealand man.

Google’s Latest AI Algorithm Can Predict the Likelihood of Death

June 19, 2018 By Jennifer Licata

Google’s AI algorithm will be able to compute the probability of death.

BEACON TRANSCRIPT – Google’s efforts to use machine learning and artificial intelligence in health care appear to have paid off. In a recent report, Google declared that its latest AI algorithm could make accurate medical predictions such as time spent in the hospital or the likelihood of death.

AI Algorithm Capable of Culling Through Patient’s Records in the Blink of an Eye

Using artificial intelligence to assist doctors in planning a patient’s treatment or to analyze disease patterns is not something new under the sun. Quite recently, one of Google AI’s peers was more successful in diagnosing skin cancer (melanoma) compared to human doctors. What AI lacks in experience makes up in processing speed.

Recently, Google’s AI and machine learning division has successfully tested a neural network-powered artificial intelligence capable of making health prediction based on the patient’s medical records.

The team said that the AI algorithm could cull through hundreds, if not thousands, of pages to make its predictions. More than that it can read scribbles at the foot of the page.

To see just how advanced Google’s AI algorithm is, here’s what happened in a hospital that accepted to test the algorithm. According to the case report, a woman with terminal lung cancer was admitted to the hospital last week.

Moreover, doctors said her lungs were filled with liquid. Based on her vitals and bloodwork, the human doctors surmised that her likelihood of death was 9.3 percent.

After feeding the same data to Google’s AI algorithm, the likelihood increased from 9.3 percent to a staggering 19.9 percent. Regrettably, the patient passed away a few days later.

Conclusion

The test performed by Google’s AI division is the first of many. So far, Google’s machine learning researchers agree that some sectors, such as healthcare, could benefit from having a powerful data processing unit.

basement

The suspect allegedly dragged the body of Jeremy Safran to the basement.

BEACON TRANSCRIPT – Mirzo Atadzhanov, a 28-year-old man from Brooklyn, and the alleged killer of New York City University Professor Jeremy Safran recently entered a not guilty plea. Atadzhanov told the authorities that he was acting in self-defense when he slew the professor.

Jeremy Safran Provoked Brooklyn Man with Derogatory Comment

According to the DA’s Office, Atadzhanov became a person of interest in Safran’s murder after one of the professor’s neighbors saw him entering and leaving the house minutes before his wife discovered the cadaver.

During his police interview, the Brooklyn man, who apparently is from Tajikistan, declared that Safran approached him a while back for house maintenance. Atadzhanov claimed that Jeremey Safran commissioned him to repair his electric system. He also told the authorities that he agreed to Safran’s terms even though he’s not qualified.

Upon completing the repairs, Safran allegedly told Atadzhanov that his work leaves a lot to be desired. Furthermore, according to the suspect’s taped confession, Safran told him that “this country cannot benefit from immigrants.”

Upset by Safran’s derogatory comment, Atadzhanov confronted the New York University professor.

According to the authorities, the suspect claimed that Safran attacked him with a combat knife after their verbal confrontation. The suspect added that Safran’s death was self-defense. However, the crime scene clues paint an entirely different story.

One of Safran’s neighbor saw Atadzhanov entering and leaving the house on the day of the murder. This prompted him to call Safran’s wife.

Furthermore, the first responders found the professor’s body in the basement, with a blunt-type wound to the base of his head.

Conclusion

Atadzhanov was still in the house when Safran’s wife discovered her husband’s body. The authorities declared that the suspect came out of hiding when he saw the woman’s pit bull.

Chinese Man Inserts Foot-Long Eggplant in Anus to Get Rid of Constipation

June 5, 2018 By Jennifer Licata

eggplant

The eggplant was found pressing against the heart muscle and left lung.

BEACON TRANSCRIPT – A team of Chinese surgeons has recently had to remove a foot-long eggplant from a 50-year-old man’s abdomen. The patient told his doctors that he deliberately inserted the eggplant in his anus in an attempt to alleviate his constipation.

Eggplant Was Found Near the Hear During Surgery

Because the medical has always been a source of fascination, here’s the story of a 50-year-old man from China who drove to the hospital because the abdominal pain was too much for him.

As it turns out, the reason why the unnamed man’s belly was hurting was a foot-long eggplant that was pressing on his cardiac muscle.

Apparently, he has been for some time suffering from chronic constipation. Unable to alleviate the condition, the man sought a more ‘natural’ remedy.

And so, two days before going to the hospital, the Chinese man inserted an eggplant in his anus.

CT and X-Ray scans revealed that the object went passed the bowels and somehow got stuck between his lungs and heart.

The ER doctors explained that the object’s unusual position is due to the bowel, which sort of carried the object all the way to his heart.

During surgery, the doctors discovered that the foreign object was resting on his heart muscle.

Fortunately, the surgeons were able to remove the eggplant from the man’s upper abdomen.

Conclusion

The latest medical report suggests that the patient’s condition is stable. Moreover, the patient is expected to make a full recovery.

Given the object’s position, the Chinese man will need to take swelling meds as part of the eggplant irritated his left lung.

When asked about the unusual treatment, the man told his doctors that the eggplant should have worked as a laxative, curing his chronic constipation.
