BEACON TRANSCRIPT – The story of a terminally ill nine-year-old boy from Maine went viral last month, when his parents asked people to help them make his final days happy. Little Jacob Thompson was a big fan of Christmas, but his parents and the doctors were afraid he won’t live to celebrate it. Therefore, thousands of strangers from all over the world sent him early Christmas cards. On Sunday, the boy passed away.
The boy celebrated Christmas earlier
On October 11th, Jacob Thompson returned to the hospital, but the doctors had bad news. The boy was suffering from cancer, which had spread all over his feeble body. He had now too many tumors, so doctors sadly told the parents there was nothing more they could do than make the boy’s last days as happy as possible.
Jacob loved Christmas, so his parents decided to bring the holiday to him, as his chances to live by the end of the year were scarce. Therefore, they posted a message asking people to send the boy handmade holiday cards. Although they didn’t expect it, thousands of people worked together to make Jacob happy, and he received beautiful cards from all over the world.
He died one week after celebrating Christmas
However, these were not the only ones who helped Jacob in his final days. The boy was a huge fan of penguins, so the Mystic Aquarium from Connecticut brought a real one to Jacob and allowed him to hold it. He also liked police officers, so hundreds of officers from Boston or other states came to visit him.
The official date for Jacob’s Christmas was November 12th, when his parents decorated his hospital room and even brought Santa Claus. One week later, the boy passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones. His parents cannot thank everybody enough for making Jacob’s last days so happy, and are grateful such good people still exist.
