Target! Croatia led Canada 2-1 before the break
Marco Livaja scored from the top of the box after some sloppy Canada defending to put Croatia ahead in the 44th minute and the 2018 runners-up equalized eight minutes later.

DOHA, Qatar — The American Football Association has removed the Islamic Republic of Iran flag from some of its social media posts in a show of support for the protests in Iran.
A graphic of the World Cup Group B standings posted on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook on Saturday showed a plain green, white and red flag. A banner on the U.S. men’s national team’s Twitter page listing the tournament’s group-stage games was also changed Saturday to display the Iranian flag without the Islamic Republic emblem. After 24 hours, it was switched back to the banner used during the US Soccer match on Sunday afternoon.
The changes ahead of Tuesday’s game against Iran were deliberate, with a U.S. Soccer spokesman saying it was a way to show “support for women fighting for basic human rights in Iran.”
The official Iranian flag can still be seen elsewhere on US Soccer’s social media accounts, including its main web page. The removal of the logo was not a permanent protest, and future posts by American Soccer are expected to use Iran’s official flag. – Nancy Armour
Keischer Buller scored in the 81st minute to give Costa Rica a 1-0 win over Japan on Sunday, with both teams on three points after two games in Group E of the World Cup.
Japan has one group game remaining with Spain, while Costa Rica faces Germany in its final group game. With a win, Japan could have booked a place in the knockout stages after beating Germany 2-1 in their opening game. Japan made a late push against Costa Rica, but goalkeeper Keylor Navas and Costa Rica’s defense put their bodies on the line to preserve the lead.
After a scoreless first half in the dugout, Costa Rica broke through late in the second half. Keeser Fuller shoots from the center of the box. Goalkeeper Shuichi Konda misdirected his dive, and the error cost Japan the opening goal.
Japan made two substitutions at half-time, and adjusted to an attacking 3-4-3 formation. Hiroki Ito enters the game as the third center back and Takuma Asano boosts the attack.
Ko Itagura and Wataru Endo both had their shots blocked in the 50th minute. Defender Francisco Calvo made a lunging save to keep out Endo’s effort to keep the score level.
For Costa Rica, things are going to plan. Los Ticos sit back and prevent Japan from running behind their defense. As for Japan, it will want to make some changes to get a score on the board and keep its Round of 16 hopes alive.

Costa Rica are playing for pride after losing their opening game 7-0 to Spain, while Japan are proving their win over Germany is no fluke.
Japan, which initially pressured Germany, pulled back against Los Ticos and split the possession battle (Japan 44%, Costa Rica 56%). The best attacking effort for Japan came from Ritsu Tone, who drove into the box but his cross was met by goalkeeper Keylor Navas.
