Canelo Alvarez vs. GGG 3: Live Round Updates

This will be the third meeting between the two fighters. When they first fought in 2017 it was ruled a split draw and Alvarez won a majority decision on September 15, 2018 at GGG.

Canelo Alvarez has won his WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO and That ring super middleweight titles in the tournament.

Golovkin, the challenger, walks to the ring first. The arena is rocking Seven Nation Army They blast through the speakers to mark his entrance.

Big pop for defending champion Canelo as he enters with live music.

Your referee for this match is Russell Mora.

Round 1: Golovkin gets a layup off the bell. As they take time to size each other up, Canelo looks to go for his own jab. Canelo with a step-in left hook. Right to the body of Canelo. There wasn’t much output from either fighter with less than a minute to go in the opening round. Canelo is having more success with his jab, taking an uneventful time in the first three minutes.

Round 2: Canelo lands a jab, then ducks with a gasp. Golovkin is getting busy with his buzz. Canelo hits but can’t land his heavy punches. Jab by Canelo, Golovkin hits the body. Canelo content. Right hand to the body for Canelo. Action is still somewhat tentative in two rounds.

Round 3: The best counter left by Canelo Lands was the biggest shot of the fight so far. Canelo doubles up on the jab. Golovkin uses his own jab to settle things. Canelo advances with a flurry. Golovkin connects with a jab. Canelo lands one of his own.

MMA Fighting Round 10-9, Canelo. Overall, 30-27 Canelo.

Round 4: Canelo strings together and punches well, and Golovkin can’t do much beyond the jab. Canelo is also doing his job. Overhand right for Canelo, then a right to the body. A combo lands Canelo a right hand across the chin. Golovkin lands a jab, but Canelo backs him up with rights again.

Round 5: Golovkin triples on a jab. Canelo follows him, a right to the body, then a left. Canelo rips another good one to the body. A jab-jab-body blow combo scores for Canelo. Golovkin starts throwing right hands out. Canelo with good head movement. Golovkin pops him with a jab. A left hook by Canelo, then a body shot that sends the off-balance Golovkin back a couple of feet. Canelo’s upperclassmen right marks. At the end of a close round the champion walks away.

Round 6: Canelo lands a jab and circles around Golovkin to open the 6th round. As Golovkin tries to muscle his way in, Canelo hits him to the body and lands a short hook. Golovkin with a 1-2. He suspends Canelo. Canelo rips the body. Golovkin’s little offense passes before he lands an uppercut. Another tough one for Canelo to land.

MMA Fighting Round 10-9, Canelo. Overall, 60-54 Canelo.

Round 7: Canelo scores with a left hand and avoids two Golovkin counters. Right cross by Canelo leads to a clinch. Canelo’s left hook scores. Uppercut by Canelo. He’s in the pursuit, and Golovkin hasn’t been out there much. He punches Canelo to the body. Canelo hits Golovkin with a right hand. He lands a steady jab that Golovkin can’t find.
