BEACON TRANSCRIPT – Comcast brings Stream TV service to Chicago and offers access to TV channels live for internet-only subscribers to Xfinity. The new Stream TV service will allow internet users to view broadcasts from several major networks in real time in the Chicago metropolitan area and Comcast plans to widen the service area to the entire area that the company covers by next year.
A Comcast representative has explained in a press release that Stream TV is an IP cable service that the company delivers over the home network that it manages. Stream TV will also not take into account the 300 GB data caps that have been implemented in some areas.
Comcast’s webpage has also provided information concerning other aspects of the service. According to information provided by the company, Stream TV will not be delivered through the user’s internet connection so it shouldn’t affect the amount of data people use to browse the internet or use up the allotted Internet bandwidth that subscribers have. The service is actually a cable streaming service provided using the company’s cable system.
This not only means that the Stream TV service will not use the monthly data usage allowance that subscribers have for their Internet, but it also implies that customers will still be able to browse the Internet using the same bandwidth that their plans offer and have the same speed for their internet connection while using the Stream TV service.
So far it seems that Stream TV will offer many entertainment options considering that it comes with many on-demand TV movies and shows on offer. Most of the channels that the service offers are available in HD and the service allows members to access popular channels such as HBO, ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC, PBS,Telemundo and Univision. Users can also choose to access premium content such as HBO Comedy and HBO Family.
The Stream TV service can also be used on a wide range of devices including smart phones, tablets and laptops, provided that these devices have access to a Wi-Fi connection. There is no technical setup required within the customer’s home, as the connection to the service is done instantly after the customer signs up and is configured remotely by Comcast.
There are no additional contracts required either, as customers will be charged for the service through their Xfinity internet monthly bill. The price for the Stream TV service is $15 a month with the first month offered for free.
