BEACON TRANSCRIPT – A 22-year-old Colorado resident has been recently taken into custody and charged with first-degree premeditated murder. The man is accused of executing a 19-year-old woman from Adams County soon after responding to her Craigslist ad. Authorities claim that the victim hired the man in order to commit suicide.
Colorado Woman with Craigslist Ad Had a History of Suicidal Attempts
According to the Colorado authorities, on Monday, 22-year-old Joseph Michael Lopez has been arrested and charged with the murder of 19-year-old Natalie Marie Bollinger. Lopez told the authorities that it was the victim who told him that she is depressed and hired him through a Craigslist ad in order to help her commit suicide.
The 22-year-old suspect recalled seeing Bollinger’s ad by accident while browsing the ‘Women Seeking Men’ section. Although the section has its share of odd ads, the Colorado men declared that Bollinger’s seeking a hitman ad was off from the start.
According to the man’s affidavit, soon after responding to the ‘hitman wanted’ ad, Lopez attempted to talk the 19-year-old out of committing suicide, he himself struggling with depressing throughout high school.
When the plan failed, Lopez agreed to meet Bollinger. Following a short drive, the suspect stopped the car by the side of the road, where Bollinger got off. Allegedly, during the drive, the victim handed him a loaded weapon and asked Lopez to ‘do it quickly’ as she did not want to suffer.
According to Lopez, they went to a secluded spot, kneeled down and said a short prayer. After that, at Bollinger’s instructions, Lopez placed the gun’s barrel at the back of her head and pulled the trigger.
The woman’s body was found on the 29th of December by a passerby. Although Lopez claims that he merely honored Bollinger’s request, the authorities said that there are several inconsistencies in the man’s statement.
Shortly before her last drive, the victim applied for a job, which might indicate that she might not have been willing to go through with her plan.
