BEACON TRANSCRIPT – A recent research performed by a team of international scientists comes with great news for cheese lovers. After analyzing 29 studies on dairy consumption, it concluded that consuming such products with high fat concentrations did not increase the risk of strokes and heart attacks.
The study was published in the European Journal of Epidemiology and came to the heartwarming conclusion that dairy products are neutral for our bodies. Therefore, if you love high fat cheese, you will neither benefit nor suffer from it.
Dairy is not related to risk of heart disease
Researchers want to assure people that they can eat how much dairy they want. Ian Givens, one of the researchers and nutrition professor at Reading University, says that their discoveries contradict the general belief that cheese products have a negative effect on our health.
Rumors circulated over the past ten years that saturated fats had a contribution to the development of cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, people came to think that consuming such products should increase the risk of heart attacks. Fortunately, this is not the case.
Not consuming cheese can damage the bones
Researchers gathered several studies on the subject and analyzed the data they contained. These studies spread over a period of 35 years and involved a number of 938,465 people. They found no connection between both low fat and high fat dairy products and the development of heart disease. In fact, fermented dairy products might actually lower the stroke risk.
These misconceptions had serious consequences. For fear of putting themselves at risk of having a heart attack, people gave up on milk, cheese, or yoghurt. These products contain substances vital for healthy bones, so they ended up suffering from bone damage.
However, other experts are reserved about these results. Dairy products might not be a direct cause of heart disease, but consuming too many saturated fats is not advisable. Also, their products might contain plenty of salt, which can also cause heart problems.
