On May 6th, the entire globe will witness the peak moment of the Eta Aquariids meteor shower
BEACON TRANSCRIPT – An exciting astronomic event occurs each year between April 22nd and May 20th. The Eta Aquariids meteor shower will offer one of the most spectacular views and promises to entertain even those who are not into stargazing.
What is special about Eta Aquariids?
This meteor shower occurs every year and it can be witnessed for approximately one month. However, the astronomers estimated that the peak moment of the event should occur on May 6th. Thus, get ready to enjoy one of the most stunning views you have ever seen, as you should not miss it.
Why should you not miss it? First of all, this meteor shower comes from one of the rarest comets ever witnessed. The Haley Comet passes near Earth once every 76 years, so you get only one chance in your lifetime to see it. Scientists estimated the date of the comet’s next sighting for 2061, so it is better to take the opportunity right now.
What are meteors?
Meteors are, in fact, comet pieces. These pieces break off from the bigger cosmic body and get mixed with debris, dust, or other pieces of space junk. If they get close to an atmosphere, they start burning, thus providing the breathtaking view that earthlings are so eager to see.
Eta Aquariids will be visible everywhere on the globe. However, people from the southern hemisphere will enjoy a more beautiful view, of 60 meteors per hour, but there’s no need to despair. If you live in the northern hemisphere, you will still be able to see around 30 meteors per hour.
Even though the view will not be as spectacular in all areas, it is still worth seeing. Thus, make sure you choose a special place not obstructed by artificial light, where you can enjoy the best view you can get.
