Beacon Transcript – Google has officially started offering 4K movies through its Play Store as the service first started being available some weeks ago but had no separate section.
The Google Play Store Movies & TV section is amongst the application’s newest services as it is just a little over a year old.
Nonetheless, according to Google, the is one if not the largest available digital seller for both movies and TV shows.
As the service is currently available for usage in 117 countries, Google has taken to introduce a new feature.
Google went to announce through a blog post that its Play Movies & TV will now be offering 4K such media.
A 4K resolution is the largest current screen resolution. At a 4000×2000 pixels resolution, its 4K HD or UHD-1 are dominant market products.
The dominant 4K standard seems to be the DCI or Digital Cinema Initiatives as the resolution is available in some digital television or cinematography fields.
As the market for such products is still rather reduced, 2015 marked a substantial increase in the respective market area.
Prices are predicted to continue falling and more such products are expected to become available. As such, it is estimated that by 2025, more than half of the United States homes will have a 2160 pixels TV.
Google seems to be the latest joining in what is slowly becoming the 4K trend. The companies debuted 4K movies several weeks ago. However, as the products were not available to all users, they also did not have a separate price list.
That will all change as Google has officially announced that it will make such high-resolution movies officially available in its Play Store.
Currently, the 4K movies option are only available to the United States and Canada Play Movies & TV users. However, the service will most likely be rolled out in other regions as well.
For the moment, the service offers a somewhat limited range of products and options. The 4K section contains just about 125 movies.
The price for such a movie depends on its future use. The renting price for a movie is of about $7.99. In order to buy the movie, the users will have to pay about $29.99.
Amongst the current service limitations, one has to mention the following. In between the current 125 4K movies, not all can be bought and rented.
Whilst some offer both choices, other can only be rented and others still can only be bought if the user wishes to watch them.
Most Google Play Movies & TV acquisitions can be viewed on a variety of digital devices, be it on a smartphone, tablet or laptop. Most TVs are included by default and Roku and Smart TV’s can also access the service.
Google also added support for iOS devices thanks to the former’s Chromecast services.
However, due to their high resolution, 4K movies will currently be available for only a limited number of devices.
As the movies can be bought on Android device or from the web, they can be streamed on the Chromecast Ultra. New Chromecast Ultra users will also be receiving a free 4K movie of their choice from the company.
Besides the Chromecast, 4K movies will also be available to watch on Xiaomi Mi Box 3 or on Sony Bravia Android TVs.
