BEACON TRANSCRIPT – Tropical Smoothies are a major threat to people living in Virginia because they are linked to Hepatitis A. It seems that it was connected with strawberries from Egypt. They were used for the Tropical Smoothies Cafes. Since the infected fruits were discovered, there were 35 cases discovered across Virginia.
If you consumed tropical smoothies on August 5, 6, 7 and 9, you have to benefit from a vaccine to prevent hepatitis A. Even though the cafe withdrew the strawberries and found an alternate supply, people are scared. There was a lawsuit filed against TLC Topical Smoothie by Constantinos A. Raptis. He contracted the virus while consuming a smoothie. It seems that he went there a lot of times and there was no problem until now. There will be one more lawsuit for all the victims in Virginia, that is expected on Friday.
Imagine that you drink your favorite smoothie and you discover that it is linked to a disease. People who were not vaccinated against Hepatitis A or those who consumed tropical smoothies in the last month should go to a doctor. Their health could be in danger because of those strawberries.
It is not the first time when hepatitis A is linked to fruits who came from Egypt, but it seems that there are more victims now. Hepatitis A is a viral liver disease that it caused by food or water. It can also be linked to a direct contact with an infectious person. However, it is not a dangerous disease. Almost everyone who had it managed to recover. If people do not cure it, they could die. There is a vaccine available for everyone who wants to prevent Hepatitis A. If you want to be safe, you should check your water and food, wash your hands and have your house clean.
Hepatitis A is not a chronic disease like hepatitis B or C. The virus is spread when a person eats food or drink water that was infected with the virus. The disease is associated with poor sanitation. We will see what will happen with the cafes which had those tropical smoothies. If there will be more cases, the cafes could lose all their customers.
Even though Hepatitis A is not as dangerous as another disease, we should pay attention to what we eat and drink. The problem is that most people who got infected were usual customers of those places. When you go to a cafe for a long time, you trust their products. The same thing happened with people who bought those tropical smoothies.
