BEACON TRANSCRIPT – You must have already gotten used to ads being placed almost everywhere, but there are still some places where they still don’t belong. A smartphone keyboard is definitely one of those places which should stay ad-free, but some HTC users reported stumbling upon them while trying to type.
Unexpected place for ads to show up
Users started reporting on Reddit that they ended up viewing ads in the most unlikely of places. Those HTC owners who type using TouchPal, HTC’s default keyboard, saw how ads became appearing right on the keyboard, just when they were trying to type.
Smartphone screens already offer us quite a limited space. Therefore, any kind of ad intruding our activities will take up quite a significant piece of that limited space. Also, getting into the space assigned for a keyboard gives rise to even more limitations.
How will this problem be fixed?
As expected, this bothered all users who had to face this. What annoyed them even more was the fact that these ads intruded only the basic TouchPal version. This means that they were no longer present on the premium version, so users were constrained to buy it.
Another option would be to replace the keyboard with one from a different service, such as Gboard or SwiftKey. Even so, this might sound a bit unpractical for some of them, or even too complicated if they aren’t so used to this technology.
When asked about the issue, HTC declared an error was responsible with the presence of ads on the keyboard. They said they were currently working on it, and it should be fixed shortly. Therefore, if they are patient, the company should solve the ad problem without them having to switch to a different keyboard app.
