BEACON TRANSCRIPT – On Monday, a New York jury reached a verdict in Yoselyn Ortega case, thus concluding a 7-week-long trial. For the murders of Lulu and Leo Krim, the 55-year-old nanny from the Dominican Republic was sentenced to life in prison without parole. The final days of the hearing revealed astonishing facts about the killer nanny, her family, and the murders.
Killer Nanny Shed Tears as Jury Reached a Verdict
Last week, the Krims stepped into the courtroom for the last time. Justice was served and Yoselyn “Killer Nanny” Ortega received her just punished – life in prison without parole.
As the jury rose for the verdict, Ortega, visibly emotional, spoke for the first time in weeks. The woman apologized for what has transpired that day in 2012 and invited everyone to reflect on her tragedy.
Kevin and Maria, both present during Ortega’s last court appearance, felt a great relief after hearing that the killer nanny will spend the rest of her days behind bars.
The Krims pointed out that they have been deceived by Ortega’s family, her sister being the one who recommended Yoselyn. Court documents suggest that all of Ortega’s recommendation were faked.
Before leaving the courtroom, Mr. Krim declared that Yoselyn is pure evil and a narcissist on top of everything. He added that his family wouldn’t have gone through this ordeal if Ortega confessed to her crimes and pleaded guilty.
His opinion was shared by Gregory Carro, the New York Judge presiding Ortega’s trial.
During the 7-week-long trial, riddled with heartbreaking confessions and visually-disturbing crime scene pictures, Carro decided that Yoselyn should be punished but opted for the life in prison without parole sentence, despite prosecutors calling for death.
Ortega’s mental illness defense failed miserably, the prosecution proving that the woman knew what she was doing when she plunged that knife in the Krim children.
