BEACON TRANSCRIPT – Two decades after he was infected with Lyme disease, Bruce Shilton continues to fight against the disease which he contracted from a tick. Back then, he knew nothing about this dangerous illness which changed his life. He was a successful Newmarket court judge and a lawyer, but his life has turned into a nightmare after he was bitten by a tick.
Shilton did not give up and continues his fight against Lyme disease
He had heard of tick before, but he only knew that they are some bugs. He was cutting the grass in the yard when the tick stuck to his leg and bit him. The black-legged tick carried Lyme disease. Today, this illness spread to affect his bladder, kidneys, and liver. Even if he is no longer tormented by excruciating pain, he cannot be a normal person again, being haunted by fatigue every day, going from doctor to doctor.
During all these years, he has taken a lot of treatments, always trying the best one to ameliorate the symptoms. He run out of solutions, passing one failed treatment to another. He visited the office of a chronic fatigue specialists, then a cardiologist, a nephrologist, an endocrinologist until he finally ended in a psychiatrist’s office. After twenty years of fighting against the same symptoms, he might suffer from depression now.
He regrets that he lost his job and that he can’t have his old life back
Since he was infected with this terrible disease, he lost his hope that he could ever go back to his career, trying to forget to pull out this dream out of his mind as if pulling off a bandage. Bruce Shilton has lost his career, and his life after the devastating virus was in control. Nevertheless, he did not give up to one dream, concerning the tick-borne disease clinic.
He believes that this is the only method which could help people get rid of this terrible and consuming disease. Back in 2015 when he thought he was getting better, he wanted to get back to work. Back then, he was able to go to the gym, get together with friends and even play a round of golf. He misses his job more than anything, claiming that that was his whole life.
His job defined him, and he loved what he was doing. However, after feeling well for a while, the disease regressed, and he gave up on his hope again. Meanwhile, he continues to search for more treatments, trying to keep his illness under control.
