Microsoft, Google, Apple, and Amazon are just a few companies that have entered the AI market. Now Microsoft has made an acquisition that might help its smart assistant, Cortana, be the best. Microsoft announced that they have acquired Maluuba.
The AI startup from Toronto is using deep learning in order to make natural language processing easier for these digital assistants. With the help of this AI startup, the future of Cortana might be better than another assistant.
Deep learning is a new trend in the AI market. This is why Microsoft decided to buy Maluuba. They wanted to have the best technology so that they can conquer the market.
“We’ve recently set new milestones for speech and image recognition using deep learning techniques,” wrote Microsoft in a blog post.
This comes after Maluuba showed last summer that they have a better approach than Facebook and Google because they use deep learning tech. They mentioned that their AI system can comprehend text and read almost as well as people can.
Besides the fact that Microsoft acquired this AI startup they also established a partnership with Yoshua Bengio who is now going to be an advisor for Microsoft. Before this acquisition was made Yoshua Bengio was an advisor to Maluuba.
The deep learning system will be integrated with Cortana. With the help of this system, the digital assistant will be able to complete more tasks than other assistants can at this moment. For instance, the assistant would be able to understand critical information from an email, not just read it.
This acquisition is another attempt by Microsoft to conquer the AI tech market. Maybe with the help of Maluuba and Yoshua Bengio Microsoft is going to make Cortana the best digital assistant on the market. We’ll wait and see how Maluuba integrates its deep learning technology to Cortana.
