BEACON TRANSCRIPT – Niantic will be shutting down the Pokémon Go gyms, but only temporarily, as they are getting ready for the upcoming update. It will come as a special celebration of the solstice, and promises changes in the mechanics of the gyms and the gameplay. Many players speculated that the long-awaited multiplayer mode might soon become available.
Getting players ready for the update
Many players have probably noticed that Pokémon Go gyms are currently not available. Niantic wanted to assure players there’s nothing wrong, and explained the temporary disabling of the gyms. As they are getting ready to launch an update, they want Trainers to have plenty of time to collect their defender bonuses.
Therefore, this is a sort of heads-up for players to get ready for what is prepared for the Solstice event. Niantic have given scarce details, but certain declarations might indicate to a multiplayer mode.
Gamers are waiting for the presumed multiplayer mode
In May, CMO Mark Quigley talked about the mechanics of the game and might have dropped some hints to a multiplayer mode being on the way. He said Pokémon Go is great for a lone wolf, but it might hide some great opportunities for ‘collaboration’. He wasn’t generous with the details either, but promised to reveal more on this issue as the time comes.
However, everybody is optimistic. A multiplayer mode for Pokémon Go would be a great turnover in the game, which many fans are probably looking forward to. Such a mode will surely increase the popularity of the game.
Since its release, players saw the potential of a multiplayer option, and kept requesting one. The game is engaging and entertaining at the beginning but, after some time, it might become a little boring. Therefore, multiplayer might prove a breath of fresh air for Pokémon Go.
