‘American Psycho’ North Carolina aspiring preacher was ‘high’ on cold meds when he slashed his wife.

Phelps’ online activity reveals that the man fantasized about slaying a person and he had marital trouble.
‘American Psycho’ Preacher on Cold Meds Called Authorities on the Night of the Murder
One of the detectives assigned to Phelps’ case wrote that the aspiring preacher was found to be morbidly fascinated by the movie ‘American Psycho,’ where Patrick Bateman, the main character played by Christian Bale would commit atrocious murders in his New York flat.
The North Carolina man’s online activity suggests that not only was Phelps infatuated with Bale’s slaying corporate man but he often fantasized about what it felt like to murder people.
Phelps also held numerous online identities, including an Instagram account, where he posted screenshots from ‘American Psycho’ and of himself dressed as Patrick Bateman. Under the username ‘@marty_radical,’ the once aspiring North Carolina preacher would engage in lengthy conversations with friends and strangers about serial killers and the movie.
The court documents reveal that it was Phelps who called the authorities after butchering his wife in the September 2017 attack. According to the authorities, on that night, the North Carolina man dialed 911 and told the emergency dispatcher that he might have killed his wife and that there’s blood everywhere in the room.

When the detectives arrived, they’ve discovered Mrs. Phelps curled up in the fetal position on the bedroom’s floor, clothes soaked with blood. The man, who was covered in blood, admitted taking too many cold meds before retreating into the bedroom and that he doesn’t remember stabbing his wife.
Phelps mentioned that the last thing he remembers is waking up with a blood-covered knife in his hands and her wife dead on the floor. The coroner’s report indicated that the man allegedly high on cold meds stabbed his wife 123 times.
