Travemate showcases cuttin-egde smart suitcase at Consumer Electronics show.

BEACON TRANSCRIPT – What if we told that one day you won’t need to drag around your old and heavy suitcase but, instead, have it follow you around? It might sound like something out of a science-fiction novel, but it would appear that one Californian company has made every traveler’s dream come true.

Smart Suitcase – The Future of Travelling

Travelmate is California-based startup company which tinkers around with robotics. The company’s latest achievement is Travelmate, an ultracompact and smart suitcase which follows its owner around just like a dog.

According to Maximilian Kovtun, the founder, and owner of Travelmate, the new smart suitcase is entirely self-dependent and capable of carrying virtually anything a traveler would require. Travelmate has two modes: it can either follow you around using its computer vision technology, or you can seize control of it using an accompanying smartphone application.

Don’t worry too much about Travelmate smashing into obstacles since the smart suitcase is perfectly capable on its own to avoid bumping into stuff. The gadget show suitcase can pick up your own pace faster than you can say ‘smart suitcase.’

And, to top it all up, it has a maximum speed of 11 kilometers per hour. Now, this might seem like a nifty thing to carry around but do keep in mind that the device is still in the prototype phase. Also, according to the company’s CEO, its retails price will be somewhere around $1,500, which makes the kind of expensive.

However, before jumping the gun, don’t forget that even Travelmate has its competitors. To give you a hint about what the competition thinks about self-driving suitcases, you should definitely check out the facial recognition smart suitcase from ForwardX or the ride-on luggage from Modobag.

Conclusion

All in all, this gadget show suitcase has its perks, but it will be a while before we see these little technological wonders following their masters around the airport.
