A 61-year-old Long Island, father and daughter, were taken into custody and charged with endangering a child’s welfare, following an incident which allegedly occurred at the AMC theatre on the 2nd of January. The authorities declared that no one was seriously injured in the event.
Star Wars Screening Ends with Cursing and Flying Popcorn
Celia Riggs, a 28-year-old mother of three, recalls going to the AMC theatre with her husband and children for the Star Wars: The Last Jedi screening. The woman told the authorities that they’ve just taken their seats when her 2-year-old daughter asked her to buy some popcorn.
Allegedly, when the toddler asked for popcorn, she was told by another woman in the backseats, later identified as 61-year-old Keri Karman, to be quiet. Riggs asked Karman to stop talking to her daughter. She also told the authorities that her girl didn’t even scream or made a scene, she just said ‘popcorn’ one time.
Supposedly, when Riggs told Karman to stop talking to her two-year-old daughter, the woman lost her temper and began cursing both mother and daughter. And because no screening is complete with someone throwing a temper tantrum over someone refusing to keep quiet, Karman allegedly got up from her seat and placed her hand on the toddler’s mouth, ordering her to keep quiet.
Before leaving the theatre, Karman allegedly poured the contents of a popcorn container over the girl’s head and smacked her across the face with it. Riggs alerted the authorities who later placed Keri Karman and her 61-year-old father, Charles Karman, in custody.
The mother claimed that the incident left her daughter with a contusion on her face. Following the arrest, Abby Levitt Ferrara, Keri’s friend, wrote on her Facebook page that Riggs’ story was fictitious and insisted that it was Riggs who started the whole thing by pushing Keri aside when she asked the toddler to keep quiet.
Furthermore, Ferrara insists that Keri did not hit the toddler with the popcorn container, but that she spilled the popcorn when Riggs shoved her.
