BEACON TRANSCRIPT – STDs are very dangerous and many people are still reluctant on using condoms as they consider them a turn off, but the new supercondom combats HIV and enhances pleasure.
After realizing that schools are lacking sex education and teenagers are in danger of becoming infected with all sorts of sexually transmitted diseases, people – especially parents – are starting to worry. But teenagers are not the only ones who are in danger. Many adults refuse to use condoms claiming they can’t feel as good as they feel without them. But, since people still need to be cautious a solution would be to find a way to keep the pleasure and the health of the condom users.
Mahua Choudhury is an Indian professor who works in the United States. He is the creator of the supercondom. How can this condom offer you a better protection than other condoms? Unlike the others, it is not made of latex. The professor used a combination of hydrogel with a natural antioxidant which has antiviral properties and therefore, doubles the condom’s protection against STDs.
The project received funds from the Grand Challenge in Global Health in collaboration with the foundation owned by Bill and Melinda Gates. The people working on this project are trying to bring other improvements to public health and are not focused only on HIV prevention. However, if the team goes through with this project, the condom might represent a turning point in the constant fight against HIV.
Of course, as any other condom, it can provide protection against unwanted pregnancies and any STD. Although it’s made from something else other than latex, the condoms will most probably look just as the traditional ones. The natural antioxidant embedded in the condom will be released while in use. This will enhance the level of protection against HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases. Moreover, scientists claim the same antioxidant will also enhance sexual pleasure.
According to the professor, there have been no side-effects registered so far. Therefore, all they have to do is to make sure the condoms are fully functional and also try to make them as affordable as possible, so people would feel more encouraged to buy and use them.
