BEACON TRANSCRIPT- In some cases, Zika can be spread in tears and sweat. Men from Utah gave the virus to his son and it is believed that this is the only way that it could have happened.
Another bad news is that the doctors suspect that the virus can kill people that don’t have another disease so it can affect the strongest body. This was found out after a man aged 73 died from this disease.
At first, the doctors thought that it was another virus, similar to Zika because the patient experienced some symptoms that are seen in both cases.
The man passed away after only 4 days because the levels of infection were very high and the kidneys and respiratory system were not able to work anymore.
The strange fact is that his son, a man aged 38, got sick. He had a rash that is typical for Zika infection. The son mentioned that he had little contact with his father and that he only wiped his father’s eyes and helped the nurse move the man in the bed. This seems to be the only contact that he had with his ill father. The son also reported that he did not travel in those weeks. This means that the virus could have spread to the son just from the tears and sweat.
“Given the very high level of viremia in Patient 1, infectious levels of virus may have been present in sweat or tears, both of which Patient 2 contacted without gloves,” said the lead doctor, Sankar Swaminathan.
Given the particularities of the case, the researchers have grown increasingly worried about a potential Zika outbreak. The virus is starting to get out of control as it is, the potential of it being able to travel through bodily fluids making it even more dangerous and volatile.
Ebola also caused similar problems a few years ago. The virus was able to spread in the same way, contaminating healthy individuals through the same means.
Even though mosquito bites are the main way in which Zika spreads, the virus can also be passed on through unprotected sexual activities, and according to new evidence, bodily fluids and liquid excretions.
