Texas Muslim Family Pummels Daughter Who Ran Away from Home
According to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Department, on Friday, 34-year-old Abdulah Fahmi Al Hishmawi and 33-year-old Hamdiyah Sasha Al Hishmawi were taken into custody. The Texas Muslim family reportedly subjected their 16-year-old daughter, Maarib Al Hishmawi, to torture for refusing to marry a man they’ve chosen for her.
Al Hishmawi’s story began in late January when the teenager ran away from home as she was displeased with her parents’ intent to marrying her to a man she never met. In exchange for their daughter’s hand, the Texas Muslim family accepted $20,000 cash.
On the 30th of January, Maarib was reported missing from the couple’s home. According to Javier Salazar, the Bexar County Sheriff, the 16-year-old was found mid-March and, before being returned to her parents, she spent some time with a non-profit organization.
After being returned to her parents, allegedly, the girl got punished for her behavior. When Maarib told her mother and father that she refuses to wed the man they’ve chosen for her, the couple got angry and started beating the teen with literally anything they could put their hands on, including a broom.
More than that, following the couple’s arrest on Friday, the 16-year-old was taken to the hospital with severe burns on her face and body. Reportedly, the girl told the authorities that, in a fit of anger, her father poured hot cooking oil over her.
The Muslim family was arrested, charged with child abuse and booked into county jail.
