Trump withdraws second lawsuit against New York attorney general

Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday dropped a second lawsuit against New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) alleging fraud over his office’s business practices.

The voluntary dismissal stipulation, signed by Trump lawyer Alina Huba and an attorney from James’ office, was filed in federal appeals court in Manhattan. No reason was given for the withdrawal.

Trump first filed suit in federal court in Syracuse, N.Y., saying James violated his rights and those of his company by pursuing a politically motivated investigation. Trump appealed the ruling after a judge in May found “no evidence” that James acted with bias.

Tuesday’s withdrawal of that appeal marks the second time in five days that Trump has dropped the case against James. A $250 million lawsuit Against Trump. The former president, his three grown-up children and executives at his company have been accused of blatantly manipulating property and other asset valuations by defrauding lenders, insurance brokers and tax authorities to offer them better bank loan and insurance policy rates and lower their taxes. Responsibilities.

On Friday, Trump — who Announced a bid for the presidency in 2024 – withdrew a separate lawsuit filed in Florida that sought a stay of probate of James’ revocable trust. A one-page filing in a federal district court did not provide a reason for that withdrawal.

A few days ago, US District Judge Donald M. Middlebrooks fined Trump and Hubba nearly $1 million for the frivolous ruling. His 2016 presidential rival, Hillary Clinton, was suedand many others.

In his 46-page ruling, Middlebrooks cited a case against James that demonstrated Trump’s “pattern of abuse of the courts.”

New York Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engron has set a trial date for James’ main civil suit against Trump for October.

The lawsuit, which could freeze the Trump Organization’s ability to do business in New York, accuses the family-run real estate, golf resort and hospitality business of intentionally deceiving lenders, insurance brokers and tax agencies to obtain favorable loan rates and reduce its tax liabilities. By using fake property valuation statistics from 2011 to 2021.

Trump’s lawsuit, which was withdrawn in Florida last week, alleged that James “repeatedly abused his position as Attorney General of the State of New York to pursue a vendetta against President Trump” — similar to what Trump asserted in the New York case. It was withdrawn on Tuesday.

Middlebrooks, in her ruling released late Thursday, wrote that Trump is a “prolific and sophisticated litigator who repeatedly uses the courts to exact revenge on political opponents.”

“He is the mastermind behind the strategic abuse of the judicial process and cannot be seen as a lawyer blindly following the advice of a lawyer. He was well aware of the impact of his actions,” Middlebrooks wrote. “Therefore, Mr. Trump and his chief adviser Ms. I see that bans should be imposed on Hubba.”

The court found Trump, Hubba and the law firm of Hubba Madayo & Associates jointly liable for $937,989.39.
