BEACON TRANSCRIPT – Recently, Mark Zuckerberg and Jack Dorsey declared that will not dignify ISIS’s death threats with a response, although the number of threats has increased substantially. Twitter and Facebook chiefs were left unvexed by ISIS threats declaring that these messages have become somewhat of a routine.
It looks like both Zuckerberg and Dorsey have begun to treat the ever-increasing death threats from ISIS like it’s part of a normal working day.
When did this start? As a recall, a couple of weeks ago, the major social media players announced that they have officially enlisted in the fight against global terrorism. To this end, both Facebook and Twitter decided to close down hundreds of thousands of ISIS-related accounts. According to a report, since the fight against terror campaign started, Facebook alone managed to track and shut down approximately 125.000 accounts.
The same social media giant also stated that the accounts closed down during the cyber counter-terrorism actions belonged to either official members of ISIS or to sympathizers who chose to share their thoughts regarding ISIS’s actions.
Soon after Facebook and Twitter to play a more active role in the fight against global terrorism, and especially against the Islamic State, they’ve begun to receive several death threats from various individuals who claimed that are acting on behalf of the terrorist organization. Perhaps this whole situation took a turn for the worse when one sympathizer posted a 25-minute video clip on his Facebook account.
The clip was showing several “freedom” fighters preparing to execute two dummies on which they’ve posted the photos of Zuckerberg’s and Dorsey’s faces. Apart from this horrific display, the narrator claimed that ISIS will not be stopped by few closed accounts. He also added that if one account goes down, 10 more will take its place.
Moreover, the organization also claimed that they already own over 10.000 Facebook accounts, 5.000 Twitter accounts, and more than 150 Facebook groups.
Still, according to Facebook, their action to counter the ever-increasing cybernetic terrorism was fruitful. Even though ISIS manages to elude the ever-watching eyes of Facebook and Twitter by creating new accounts, it takes a while to gather supporters.
We should also state that the two social media giants have attended a meeting at the White House at the beginning of January in order to discuss with Government officials about what measures should be taken in order to counter online terrorism. And it’s no small role considering the fact that modern-day terrorist organization recruits all their members using online platforms such as Facebook and Twitter.
Twitter and Facebook chiefs were left unvexed by ISIS threats and will do everything in their power in order to counter ISIS’s hate speeches with messages about love, peace, and tolerance.
