BEACON TRANSCRIPT – The government of the United Arab Emirates has great plans for the next 100 years, maybe the greatest plan devised by humans regarding space. They want to start building a city on Mars.
UAE’s ambitious space program is called Mars 2117 Project. Its aim is to build a city on Mars, with an average population of 600,000 and about the size of Chicago. The idea was proposed by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai and Vice President of the United Arab Emirates, during the World Government Summit that took place on Tuesday in Dubai.
It is a huge project which poses the greatest of challenges, but UAE are well-known for solving the most complicated tasks, so there might be a chance that this project should see the light of day.
UAE officials are hardworking people who take everything very seriously. If others took this project as a joke, the UAE government is already making preparations. Building a city the size of Chicago with 600,000 dwellers and not anywhere, but on Mars might be one of the greatest projects that they have decided to do. They have already settled to start their space programs in 2020.
As mentioned before, the government has already gathered a team of scientists that will take care of the entire space mission, starting with the development of the star shuttle programs and the analysis of the conditions that humans might need to survive. Also, they want to introduce space program studies at the universities in their country.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum made a few statements regarding the space project. He declared that Mars 2117 was like a seed that had the potential to grow in the arid lands of Mars and bring plentiful results. He added that the purpose of their project is to build a mini-city and community in Mars which would involve international cooperation. This might be enough to spice interest in others.
They are not the only one who thought about living on Mars. Elon Musk and his project SpaceX built spacecrafts that performed successful flights and aimed to send humans live on Mars within the next 10 years. However, he has not figured yet how they would be able to survive there. This is a problem that the UAE government claims to have thought about, and they will do anything to make this project possible.
