BEACON TRANSCRIPT – WhatsApp was one of the many apps which borrowed the Stories idea from Snapchat. However, it proved so popular that, less than three months after the release, it gathered 175 million users. This brought the app to the top and helped with maintaining its popularity among its one billion users.
WhatsApp is now owned by Facebook, and has recently joined the other apps which copied the Snapchat feature Stories. This attempt, called Stories, was successful, as Facebook achieved what they were planning. They both found new mediums to deliver more advertising, and succeeded in slowing the expansion of Snapchat on the globe.
The Status received a warm welcome
WhatsApp is not so popular in the United States as it is abroad, so it is somehow understandable that the Status feature was embraced by the users. Analysts suspect that most WhatsApp users were not familiar with the Stories format, so this is why they were fascinated by Status. Facebook have released an official announcement where they confirmed the success of the new feature.
There has always been a fierce competition between Snapchat and Facebook. Currently, the former has 161 million daily users, while the latter is a tough opponent, with more than one billion active users per day. However, Snapchat has an advantage.
Tough competition between Facebook and Snapchat
Snapchat benefits from a faithful user base. Most of them do not visit Facebook or Instagram so often, and use Snapchat as their primary social media service. Therefore, they are less likely to abandon this platform in favor of their competitors.
Facebook might be a hard-to-beat opponent for Snapchat, and some of their efforts against their competitors even proved successful. However, Snapchat is also quite hard to bring down. Therefore, we are about to witness an interesting battle of the social media giants who cannot establish which should own the supremacy on the market.
