Wickliffe Woman Has No Criminal Record, Authorities Declared
On Friday night, at around 11 p.m., the Wickliffe authorities were summoned to a hotel located on Euclid Avenue. The caller, a woman whose name has not yet been disclosed, told the emergency operator she accidentally shot her 2-year-old child.
After arriving at the scene, the Wickliffe law enforcement officials discovered an unresponsive toddler. A police officer performed CPR on the toddler before the paramedics arrived. The child was declared dead at the hospital.
Based on the woman’s testimony, it appears that that infant’s death is nothing more than a freak accident, as the authorities have no reason to believe that the mother could endanger her child.
The Wickliffe woman told the law enforcement agents that after booking the room, she was just about to turn in when she remembered that her weapon needs to be cleaned before placed in the holster.
At around 11 p.m., the infant’s mother was almost ready with the gun, when the weapon accidentally discharged. Based on the ballistics report, the slug went to the mattress and hit her 2-year-old infant in the chest.
Three other children were inside the hotel room when the infant was shot, but none of them were injured.
A police-ordered background check revealed that the Wickliffe woman had a concealed carry permit and not a single stain on her criminal record. More than that, authorities could not find any history of abuse or anything that might point towards being a homicide.
For the moment, the Wickliffe law enforcement officers will not press charges against the woman.
